Buns for Sliders

Do you love sliders (small hamburgers) as much as we do at our house? The great thing about them is that they are juicier, easier to eat-especially for kids and you can make a lot of them. Everybody loves to garnish them with small bits of cheese, tomatoes, pickles, avocados, and whatever else you like on a burger. Maybe you have never tried them because you can't find small burger buns. I found this bun recipe on Rosa's Yummy Yum blog and it is very easy and delicious. You can also find slider molds at Bed Bath and Beyond to make your little burgers a more uniform size.

Slider Hamburger Buns

1 cup water, lukewarm

2 Tbs. butter, at room temperature

1 egg

3 ¼ cups flour

¼ cup sugar

1 tsp. salt

1 Tbs. instant yeast

1 egg yolk + 1 tsp. water

Sesame seeds (optional)

1. Sprinkle yeast in water and leave for 5 to 10 minutes. Stir to dissolve.

2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients (except egg yolk & water mixture) and mix well. (My portable mixer has dough hooks that work great for mixing the dough.)

3. Turn the dough out on to a lightly floured working surface and knead for about 10 minutes until dough is soft and smooth.

4. Place dough in a clean and lightly greased bowl.

5. Cover with a towel and let raise for about 1-1 ½ hours, until doubled in size.

6. Roll out dough to approximately 3/8” to ½” thick and use a glass or circle cutter (2 ½” diameter) to cut out the buns. Or, you can divide the dough into 16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it.

7. Place buns on greased cookie sheet, cover with a towel and let them raise for 30-40 minutes.

8. Preheat oven to 375ยบ

9. Just before baking, brush tops of buns with egg yolk mixture and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

.

10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
